For one more year we should be sellers at deadline regardless of playoff situation. Our inconsistency this season is clear evidence we are not a contender just yet anyways. That status changes next year with some of our bad contracts especially on D. Core entering prime years.
We likely will have 2-4 players graduate to big club next year (Kylington or Andersson, Jankowski, +/- one or more of Klimchuk/Mangiapane/Poirier). Which means we need to restock the cupboards for the farm and future.
Versteeg for a 2nd rounder. We could probably re-sign in offseason anyways since local ties.
Engelland for a 2nd or 3rd rounder.
Wideman for a 3rd or 4th rounder (or whatever anyone will give us). Might need to retain salary.
Elliott for a 4th or 5th rounder (Riddich can back-up big club at end of season, more likely to re-sign here if we give up a big club look, 2nd in AHL in SA- McCollum backs up Gillies in Stockton).
Will give us flexibility to move up in 1st round or trade for 1RW at draft. We also do need a 4D although likely added by free agency.
