They offered him 4 x $20 million and he turned it down FFS.
Jays nailed the market on EE, but he and his agent misjudged it.
Now he's taking less than the Jays offered, and he has no one to blame but himself and his agent.
The Jays couldn't wait around to see what would happen with him, they had to move on to plan B or risk ending up with no EE and no decent replacement.
