Guys the reality is that 99.99% of hockey players don't make the NHL. Every single team has guys who look promising but for whatever reason don't pan out. Wotherspoon is one of those guys. If you look at Kylington, Andersson, Kulak and Hickey who I would say are our top 4 defense prospects the reality is that one of those guys might pan out. That's not just a problem Calgary has, and that's why it's always good to keep stocking the cupboards.
The Flames have developed several guys quite well. Brodie, Monahan, Gaudreau, Bennett, Tkachuk, Backlund, Ferland, and Bouma are all guys who have succeeded in Calgary's system and are on the team. Wotherspoon not working out isn't an indication that there's a flaw here, it's an indication that he's like most human beings and just isn't good enough for the NHL. Seriously, if he was the decent 5-6 defenseman some of you think he is (I still don't know why anyone thinks that) he would be on the team. Wotherspoon, at this point in time, just isn't good enough and he's at that age now where it's probably do or die for him. Obviously I hope he does well but if he doesn't it's not the end of the world. Just move on and hope the next guy can do it better.
