Driving isn't a right. It's a privilege. Poor people unfortunately are less privileged than wealthy people in a vast number of ways. I personally choose to support policies and political parties that I think attempt to address this basic fact in balanced, reasonable and just ways (for example, replacing Alberta's regressive flat income tax rate with a progressive one [that was the NDP btw]). However, I don't think that subsidizing the negative costs of all drivers, rich and poor alike, is a sensible policy. I believe (although I am by no means an expert on such matters) that the current prive of driving in Alberta does not accurately reflect the actual costs (including environmental and infrastructure costs). Therefore, some type of carbon tax may be a reasonable, even sensible, policy.
Or maybe I'm wrong and Notley is just a stupid bitch.
