Forget about Iginla the face of the franchise for a second and look at Iginla the player. Last season he put up 13 power play goals. That led his team, is a far cry more then any Flame, and put him 6th in the NHL for PPGs. Meanwhile the Flames have one RH shot forward that gets any power play time, and Brouwer is not a sniper. The Flames could use a player like that on the PP. He may even be an upgrade on Chaisson 5 on 5 on our top offensive line.
The motivational story is gravy, but the decision would need to be based on the hockey fit. So it really comes down to how you see Iginla this season. Is he completely out of gas, or is this one of his normal slow starts and he is still the guy he was a season ago? If it is the former he makes our team better this season and is a good deadline pick-up. If it is the latter we stay away.
