Top players in general were taking a higher % of the cap in the first few years after the lockout Iginlas 7 million was probably 17%. Richards and Lecavalier were cap max at $7.8.
Since then we'very seen a decline in % of the cap going to the leagues best.
McDavid will be bucking the trend if he asks for nearly the max.
Anyway we'll have a clearer picture after the season. If Crosby wins the Art Ross and Hart it's a totally different conversation than if McDavid does.
