Chiasson has been everything you want from a depth winger. That includes putting up almost double the points than Iginla this season.
And no, we don't need Iggy to help the powerplay. He's got a good shot, and that's about it. We got other guys with a good shot that can also contribute more in other ways. (It's not like Iginla has a history of being part of great powerplays either, so I don't really get why people think he'd be of help.) Besides, our PP has been just fine recently.
Iggy's been bad for a while now. Even when he used to put up points, he looked more like a problem for the Avs than a contributor if you ask me. This season he's just been a really bad player. Lazy, slow and one-dimensional, about as bad as you'd expect from a 3rd liner on a terrible team.
Add his salary to the equation and the inevitably media frenzy and he's a strong competitor for "literally the last player I'd want to bring to this team".
(I also kind of fail to see how him willing to waive his NMC is news. "Aging player on the worst team in the league wants out." Wow, stop the press. Right now probably every player on the team would welcome a move.)
