As for McDavid, I think Flames fans are projecting what they want to see happen (McDavid asking for cap max) onto their expectations for his next salary.
No one has really been making asks like that since around 05/06 so I don't believe its a strong possibility. We'll see.

I'm not sure your thoughts on McD are true. Flames fan or not, I begrudgingly think that McD will have already proved he's the best player in the game with limited debate by the time his next contract comes around. He'll be in the same position many of the other top "future players" (like JG etc...) have been, but with one very distinct difference. He'll likely have already proven he's the best in the game, not that he's probably going to be the best in the game.
That recipe of already the best, but likely not hit his ceiling yet will equal the most high paid player in the NHL come his next contract + plus pay for his improvement if the Oilers want him long term (which they will).
