that's why some teams will never be successful in a cap world. You don't overpay bottom liners, especially not long-term.

Pretty much everyone does it, at least the consistent non playoff teams anyway.
Even the Flames are/were investing north of $6M per year into Stajan, Bouma and Bollig. These are three 4th line guys that may not even get another NHL contract.
