that depends on how you want to spin it. IMO Boston certainly didn't "give up" on him, they just saw an opportunity to add a quality defenseman for a playoff run, and given that they won the cup that year, I'd say the gamble paid off. Toronto then was at a point where they simply didn't have a roster spot for him, so they traded him for a pick instead of losing him on waivers. Calgary certainly didn't give him up, they just didn't have the cap space to re-sign and/or were unwilling to pay him a significant raise after a career year.
You hate Colborne, we get it. But let's not re-write history here. The guy still scored 37 goals and 100 points over 3 years in Calgary, he wasn't "awful" by any means.
