Eight teams at least allows all the conference champions to make it so you never end up with this years Ohio/PSU debate. If they go to eight though they should do my proposal where the conference champions get the 1 to 5 seeds and the 8th seed is reserved for the best minor conference team. This would have created the following playoff:
1 Alabama vs 8 Western Michigan
2 Clemson vs 7 Michigan
3 Washington vs 6 Ohio State
4 Penn State vs 5 Oklahoma
