I've been up and down on Chaisson this season. I was really rooting for him early and thought he was a lot better addition to Gaudreau-Monahan than people were giving him credit for. After 5 games though I started to lose faith and thought his style wasn't working, he was too "north-south" and dump-and-chase and getting himself offside and out of sync with the line.
His playstyle was much better with Stajan because it was a simpler game, and Bennett was able to adjust I thought and also simplify. What I saw last game was Johnny adjusting his game to his line mates instead of everyone adjusting to him. Bennett and Chaisson bulldozed out of and into zones, they opened up space for Gaudreau to let him do his thing. Dump and chase works because unlike Monahan, Bennett is getting his hands dirty too.
Chaisson is reminding me a lot of Dean McAmmond playing with Iginla and Conroy. Straight up and down the ice player, grinds out the corners and gives his line mates space. He isn't going to score 50 points, but he plays an effective role, and does have a half decent nose for dirty goals.
