This is exactly right. Those teams were good enough to win the Cup from 89-94 (except 92, when the Gilmour trade gutted them.) 94 was the most devastating for me because they were up 3-1 in the series and they lost 3 straight OT games. Just no killer instinct.

Still remember Fleury on the radio after that game 7 loss to the Canucks: "It wasn't, you know, our defenceman's fault, you know. And if anyone wants to , you know, argue with me about it, they can meet me in the parking lot and, you know, I'll come out on top." Or something to that effect.

The Fleury trade was a dark moment but he was such a goof sometimes.
