When I crunched the numbers, it would save us more money foregoing the rebate and keeping the old agreement.

The lady at Enmax did say that electricity is going to spike in 2017 as they shut down some coal plants and introduce the carbon tax. Right now, floating electricity is 3.8 cents/kWh, and she said there are rumors it might spike to 8-10 cents/kWh in the new year. Anyone hear numbers like this? She said she could offer 3-year fixed electricity at 5.99/kWh.
The government has already said they will cap electricity at 6.8c/kwh for 4 years. Doesn't make much sense to lock in at 5.99 when it will probably be below that for some portion of the year. Coal plants aren't' going to be shut down that quickly anyway. I think phase out will start in 2018 but I don't think we will see prices increase on that for awhile. I'm surprised your agent said that stuff, usually I've found them to be very honest at Enmax.
