Just called Enmax, and apparently we are on an old service agreement with them, where the gas transaction fee is set to 0.47/GJ. In order to get the rebate, we'd have to update our service agreement which included upping the transaction fee to 0.99/GJ. When I crunched the numbers, it would save us more money foregoing the rebate and keeping the old agreement.
The lady at Enmax did say that electricity is going to spike in 2017 as they shut down some coal plants and introduce the carbon tax. Right now, floating electricity is 3.8 cents/kWh, and she said there are rumors it might spike to 8-10 cents/kWh in the new year. Anyone hear numbers like this? She said she could offer 3-year fixed electricity at 5.99/kWh.
