'It's a tremendous betrayal to those people who voted PC': Notley on 2014 floor-crossings

Quote:
You’d be forgiven for thinking this was a quote from some pundit reacting to Thursday’s surprise floor-crossing of former Progressive Conservative MLA Sandra Jansen.

It’s actually Rachel Notley in 2014.

The premier made the comments to Global News Edmonton on Dec. 17, reacting to rumours that were swirling before another surprise floor-crossing, which saw Danielle Smith and eight other Wildrose MLAs flip to the governing Tories.

When asked for her reaction, Notley said: “Well … I think this represents a betrayal to a number of different voters, not just to Wildrose voters but also to PC voters and so both leaders are equally guilty of betraying the people who voted for them in the last election just a little over two years ago.”

It was, she said, “a sad day for honesty and integrity in Alberta politics.”
When asked if she’d ever seen anything so “substantial” as far as political parties are concerned, she had this to say:

“Well we’ve certainly seen floor crossings, but the idea of somebody moving from official opposition into government, I mean it truly is a betrayal of the parliamentary process and of issues of accountability and democracy.
