Some of my fav's that I've played:
Priddis Greens - Probably my favourite golf course in South AB, but probably unaccessible for you as it's private.
Highwood in High River - Been a member there for almost 20 years...suggest trying to stay away from the moutainview nine if playing for the first time. The Spitzee & Heritage nines are the old nines, and are the best.
Heritage Pointe - Some of the best greens I've ever played. They get better every year...I don't know how they do it.
Stewart Creek in Canmore - Expensive, but a great layout
Redwood Meadows - A couple nationwide events held here over the last few years. Great layout.
Bearspaw - Great course, probably unaccessible though as it's private.
Best Value:
Shagannapi - Great layout for a muni...nice price
Maple Ridge - Same as Shag
Water Valley - This is an absolute gem...15 minutes north of cochrane. Definitely worth the drive for the price.
Kananaskis - Best value in Alberta
Some of the one's I'm not too fond of:
Silvertip - Lots of praise in this thread, but I'm not a big fan. Too "gimmicky" for my likes. You have to hit 5 iron or less on a bunch of par 4's...not a huge fan of that.
Banff Springs - If you've never played in the mountains before, you have to do it. But after playing it a few times, it just doesn't appeal to me anymore. Too expensive, and the condition is very average. But like I said, if you haven't played here there's nothing like it.
Sirrocco - Man this course is punishing. Played it this summer, and probably won't return. Lost a few balls after hitting some decent drives, but once they bounced just off the fairway they were gone.
McKenzie Meadows - Not a bad course (a little easy), but way too expensive. $70 was last I heard?
Speargrass - It's okay until you get to the 17th & 18th hole. They clearly ran out of golf course, and had to squeeze these 2 in. I think part of the 18th even caved into the river last year.
Nanton - Bit of a dog track.
Wouldn't recommend rest of the muni's
