No, 30cm isn't very high. The thing to remember is that it isn't like a single small wave hitting the shore. These things can be a kilometer or so long and that's a lot of volume. I don't expect any major damage from this one though, as Japan is generally very well prepared for quakes and tsunamis.

Just don't go surfing today.
