I believe I am correct when i say that there is no code that requires strapping for an undermount sink. This doesn't preclude the counter/cabinet guys (who are always the guys who do undermount installs) from being brought to the carpet for a poor installation. usually, as noted above, there is an epoxy used for these depending on the type of counter-top.

I know that it has happened where inspectors (in the past) have asked to have strapping removed from sink installations for some bizarre reason.

I don't know current codes at all, but I won't be surprised if it turns out there is nothing on that side of things that will have any influence on this case.
