It doesn't matter if the Flames finish 30th and the Oilers win the cup - I will continue to ridicule that franchise.

It is arguable at best if they ever tried to improve start from the Hall draft and on until this off-season. Those smug grins as they picked 1st overall. That uncomfortable facepalm worthy 'welcome to the Oilers' segment by Katz to McDavid. The way their training staff handles players and tries to trade injured players. The arguable ruining of high-end picks who are forced to try and carry that team on their backs at too early an age. That overall smugness. The media pointing to the Oilers and proclaiming them doing it right and building something special, while Calgary was still actually trying to win games. The battles from the 80's where you got to see the Oilers' literally elbowing, sucker-punching, sucker-elbowing (Messier on Natress?), kicking (Semenko on Peplinski?) and just laughing at Calgary until they finally had a response (Tim Hunter).

I would anticipate that the Soiler fans - the ones from the 80's and early 90's at least - will also feel the same way about Calgary. They just haven't had to see 10 years of smugness over sucking like we have in the last 10 years. Flames may not have been that successful since then, but the Flames never had to intentionally suck that bad for that long, and even then have only been worse for a single season (and barely at that) as compared to them.

There will always be an asterisk IF there is ever a Stanley Cup win for that franchise with any of their #1s as part of the core. If there really are hockey Gods, they will ensure that the Soilers will continually end up near the bottom of the standings, and ensure they pick nothing but the prospects that were meant to bust anyways. May their new arena never raise any banners rewarding success again.

This is a rivalry, and this is how you feel when you get invested in rivalries. I hate them. It doesn't matter if they are better or worse. I will always hate them. Anything they do that is bad makes me hate them more. Anything good that they MAY do (hahaha) I would just shrug-off and ignore it if I couldn't build a story around it. I hate them. Will always hate them. May Wayne Gretzky die horribly (on the Simpsons show Dec 4th - I don't hate them THAT much!).
