I appreciate the challenges in operating an airline, but their margins are nowhere near as tight as they were a few years ago thanks to low jet fuel prices.  The taxes and surcharges added to tickets has not come off.  United made nearly $1 billion in net income last quarter.  Because of the reduction in the number of carriers in the US, many flight segments have no real competition.
