It's ridiculous. They're always looking for ways to improve the game. How about calling what's in the rulebook?
No one tunes in to watch some lumberjack chop down a star player. It's the only sport where "the whistle gets put away" in a tight game. Call the penalties.
Holding is still holding in football in the 4th quarter. The refs won't be deciding the game. The idiot who committed the foul will be.
