The media spends way too much time trying to maintain balance, to the point where they don't pay attention to whether an issue is balanced at all. Climate change is a great example. They provide equal time on an issue where there should be no equal time. 97% of climate scientists are in agreement on the issue. Presenting two people on the story, and not revealing the imbalance in the facts, presents a false equivalency. The media should be informing the audience on the issue better. Same goes when they are dealing with someone who is a compulsive liar. It is their job to hold the powerful accountable for the public, and that means calling these people out on their lies and embarrassing the #### out of them if needed. The mass media spends too much time currying favors and developing friendly relationships with the powerful to be of any use in the role of oversight.
