Because he said he was, over and over and over. That's the 'art of the deal', or rather the art of the con. Add in pinches of nationalism and xenophobia to an increasingly brown country.

Right, I'm not saying it is a partisan issue, I'm saying that the suggestion is that if the Dems wanted to win, Bernie would have scratched the same non-partisan itch, Clinton was just the same thing over again, I get that. I'm saying I don't think that that whole scenario is a good thing. Populism is polarizing, regardless of if it's on the right or the left, and polarization is already a big concern.
