Yeah, that's what I find funniest. There's the overarching narrative that people want change and want to throw a bull into the china shop to rid government of corruption and ties with big business. But then they elect a billionaire big businessman and his cohort of largely discredited career politicians and give the keys to a pro-big business and pro-elites party who have had the legislative majority for most of the last 20 years that has produced what they seem to hate (Iraq War leading to destabilization of the Middle East, deregulation of financial markets that led to 2008, etc.).

That said, I'm not sure that the movement for change is quite as powerful as people seem to be suggesting or that the Democratic Party is teetering on the brink of collapse. This was still an exceedingly close election where Clinton won the popular vote and had about 50-60K votes in a few key states gone the other way she would've won. This is nothing like the 2008 election where Obama won by 10 million votes and the Democrats ended up with a 17 seat advantage in the Senate and a majority in the house.
