- Ignore the noise, lives in a bubble, helps keep thoughts clear whether its analytics or video, helps keep you focused on what you want to do
- Some things that have been done well, but some things that need to improve
- Special teams is a concern and needs to get better soon or we're not going to win games
- Doesn't listen to the media or what's around the ice
- Watches the game/clips with about seven sets of eyes
- Coaches come to work around 6:00-7:00, gather their own thoughts before gathering together around 8:30
- Present, bicker, with healthy arguments about areas of concern everyday
- Need some skin, adversity to show some growth
- Need to listen to people who have experience as well
- Third and Fourth, 6th and 5th D are getting max value right now
- Top players not performing are on coaches the most
- Talk to them, keep them accountable and confident at the same time
- Team is young guys that are very accountable that care about the game and accept what's wrong. They like to learn from their mistakes.
- If you stay the course with what you believe in, "the process", it will come
- Concentrate on certain areas, starting from scratch playing sound defensively, and let them play their game, not let them think about it all the time.
- We've benched a few guys for their penalties, but we still have to play them. Sometimes playing them more until they get going helps. (talks about how he did it with Jamie Benn in Dallas until he finally got it)
- Double shifting them to fabric them into game
- Or dial back and let them learn the game
- Coaches job is to make them better and the best they can be, keep working at it everyday. It's a grind league, mans league, it won't be easy.
- True growth will come from the young guys, this is where success will lie.
- Success in this league isn't points, it's wins/losses. That's where you get real growth
- Our top players need to play their best against other top players, where growth comes from.
- Sam Bennett played against Kopitar and Getzlaf all night. He will grow from playing against those guys.
- Most minor penalties have been in the offensive zone, it's a lack of discipline and over trying being frustrated. (reaches, hooks, grabs to keep the play alive)
- It goes beyond saying we need to take less penalties, need to learn how to hold the puck more in the O zone, we're not a great team holding the puck right now. Need to get heavier along the boards. Make sure your not extending shifts for long periods.
- We never let players get away from penalties. Awareness is key in this league. Staying onside is important as well. We're always reminding players different areas of the game.
- Experience is benefiting Glen, not the team so much right now.
- Need to win special teams in order to win games. Have a 15% chance of winning without special teams.
- Focus tomorrow and it has been the focus in the last three games, from practice and video. Time is now to get better.
- Hasn't seen any progression on the power play, need to shoot the puck with more authority, cleaner entries, win more battles and face-offs.
- Has seen progress on the PK, up ice, face off structure and defending the line has to improve
- Playing a much sounder game 5v5, reinforced the things that are right, and work on the things that are not right
- Analytics is used to re-confirm what we already know.
- Anaheim game, gave up 5 chances 5v5, it's impressive.
- Need to get comfortable playing in one goal games, special teams, turnovers.
- Team is committed to playing the right way and winning.
- Need to put more pucks to the net, spreading out the zone. Put random pucks in the net, to create confusion. It's more complex than just cycling the puck
