Yeah signing Grossman only to waive him 13 games later is a waste, especially when Kulak outplayed him in camp and we already had 6 solidified defensemen, but it's nitpicking to hate on Treliving for this. Grossman being around could've served some other purpose, such as show Kulak some defensive and hitting mentoring, or apply some pressure on the prospects to get in better shape, or whatever reason only the club is aware of.
Even he's claimed off waivers, then the only thing that is effected is the team being out a few thousand. If he's not claimed, then the worst issue is that he takes up a contract spot. Nothing to trip about
