Although I am certain Clinton has more supporters, I feel that Trump supporters are a lot more intense and practically worship him.

It's clear over the last year that there are a lot of folks who've restrained their core views due to societal pressures and assumed shaming. You hear it from time to time from some people who claim that "people are over sensitive" these days, when accusations of hate and racism are heard.
Trump has shown them that it's "okay" and "acceptable" to have these thoughts, so they feel better about coming out, so to speak.
Really disappointing to be honest.
