The Den is right across the way.

Saw the New Pornographers there last night. Mac Hall is my favorite place to see bands in Calgary. Why would you want to see a band at the saddle dome?

The University of Calgary Students’ Union’s expansion to MacEwan Hall opened in January 2002. The 50,000 square foot facility will replace the Ballroom, built in 1967, as a live music venue and have a capacity of approximately 1,800. The venue will also be used as a conference and trade show space.
Not only that but the acoustics in Mac hall are very good. Some people say it gets a bit of an echo but I have found it to be the best place in the city to see a live act. Recently saw a band at the Corral and it was terrible, the Saddledome sounds a bit muffled but the den sounds great. Plus the stage is almost at the perfect elevation to see the band wherever you are standing.

Warm up with a few beers at the den where it's still very decently priced. I think we have Pil jugs for $9.50 before the last show we saw.
