I think perhaps Monahan is trying to buy into the defensive system, which involves less cheating towards the offensive breakout. Which leads to him being not as open when the breakout happens. Which leads to less availability for Johnny's passes. He and Gaudreau have to adjust. I don't think the systems are at fault.
I do think the coaching hasn't been good on the powerplay. And while I understand why GG wants to split Gio and Brodie, maybe he has to admit defeat there.
