True, but I'm sure people who make less than $40K/yr could make similar claims about higher up people in O&G who were making well over $100K/yr for years, and then starting to struggle after a couple years of no work. I'd imagine one would get used to a certain lifestyle, and financial obligations made during living said lifestyle that still exist. Probably especially hard in an industry where you're retired before 35.
I get what you're saying though, one would hope in a cutthroat industry like that, that one would properly prepare for the very early adjustment to civilian life afterwards. I just mean it's probably hard for us regular schmoes to relate to.
