That was because of the lockout, I imagine. If 04-05 had been played I think he would have been in the NHL.
Tkachuk is capable of playing in the NHL right now, no doubt about it. He's fairly old for his draft year and he's been raised in this environment. The coaches and people surrounding him here will likely be better for his development than the (also excellent) people in London.
It's all a matter of if keeping him up introduces changes in his game due to him not being as physically developed as the men he's playing against. He plays well when he's powering through guys, but
if he's unable to do it here, he might change his game to a more finesse style. It's not a matter of where he'll get the best development, it's a matter of where he should be playing to develop the style of game that makes him the most effective and the Flames want out of him. I think London will be the best place for that.
