It says positive actually, it has a chip in it and will disconnect also when it reads 12 volts. My car is used to abuse. But has generally been a good starter (there was one point I just had street parking and never plugged in). Also my car is from waterloo and believe it or not, no frost plug.
*also it needs to be grounded itself, maybe speaking to your question about the positive post
