Trump really, truly believes that because he can get 1-2000 people to cheer and eat every word he speaks, no matter where he goes, that means most of the country is doing the same. He has no concept that he is generally speaking to the top 0.1% of his most ardent supporters wherever he goes. I can see how that would be intoxicating to a megalomaniac such as himself. I suppose most politician who reach the pinnacle of being a presidential nominee have similar inclinations. But I guess the benefit of being a career politician is you realize along the way you have to have a message that resonates to somewhere around half the population.
