So the show clearly does not have a linear timeline.

Just watched episode 4. That was a flashback to an earlier conversion between Bernard & Delores. He tells her he wants her to go on an adventure (paraphrasing of course), to basically find the maze and that will set her free. Then she goes out and breaks her loop, she shoots the other host that is supposed to rape her, leaves the barn and gets shot. Then does it again but doesn't get shot and escapes and comes across William.
You have to look at this like the movie Loopers. They do this stuff every day for years, over and over again. They remember a little bit and change it the next time. That's why she appears to be shot one instance and fine the next. Now she's out of that loop, that narrative. Meaning it will now be "real time" so to speak.
They tried to bring her back but failed mostly because she was with a guest.
You see it with Maeve as well she draws that shape then goes to hide it under the floor boards only to find she has drawn it several times before.
