Latest WestJet scuttlebut I heard, take the second one for what it's worth (a rumor, I would not put a lot of faith in it).
1. the diversion was due to an avionics cooling system fault. The redundant (backup) system was already out and since this item is MEL'd when they got the fault it was an immediate diversion. I believe they could not operate ETOPS that day (maybe becasue of this?) and we fling a more northern route than they normally would have which is why they ended up in Greenland. A mechanic went up with the rescue flights, the plane was fixed and ferried back to Gatwick and operated the next day to Toronto.
2. Rumor in the hangar is ANA (Japan) has 9 767's they are looking to sell and Westjet may be interested in some or all.
