I don't think Monahan is a top line centre. Sure he's put up 60 points but how much of that is a product of Gaudreau. Guy literally just glides around on the ice hoping the puck will land on his stick. There is no wow factor to his game whatsoever, and if you look at all the top centres around the league they all have something that makes them solid, unique players. His game is as bland as his personality.
We also can't expect Bennett to jump into an established top 6 role in his second full season and expect him to put up gaudy numbers. On any other team he'd still be relegated to third line duties learning what it takes to play centre in this league. I do think one day he will become our top line centre but right now I think expectations for him are way too high because everyone is just dying to see him overtake Monahan.
