This is a typical Oilers move. Pay top dollars to declining players during their twilight years. They did it with Khabibulin, they did it with Ference and they did it with Sheldon Souray just to name a few.

The Flames offered 6.75 million over 6 years, that could be a good comparable. Most teams do not sign 33 year old dmen longterm, that is just a bad practice.
