There is a huge middle ground. Basically nobody here is denying that he has stuff to learn and room to improve. It's just poorly worded comments and acting indignant that cause people to "jump."
People who complain about the groupthink here aren't the ones with different opinions, it's the ones who present their opinions like a wang and don't understand why everyone didn't pat them on the back and say "HOT take, bud!"

This is exactly what happens here and every forum. You are bang on, and mods I am sure must get frustrated. I know if I was a mod, I am not sure I could control the ban button.
Do people pile on some posters? Yep, but almost always it is exactly as described above - some posters seem to enjoy posting in a way that is intended to ruffle a few feathers, rather than create a good discussion. When they start getting blasted for their 'borderline almost trollish' posts, they play the victim card and accuse CP of having group-think.
If you word your post with the intent to draw a reaction, stop playing the victim card. If you have a differing opinion and would like to actually have a mature discussion, then post accordingly. Don't hide behind the 'just barely on the side of not getting banned so it is fine'. You know what you do, own up to it when you do it.
For instance, I am personally of the opinion that Hartley should have been given one more year. I can state my opinion in one of two ways.
A) I believe Hartley deserved another chance, as he really seemed to help this organization turn the culture around, has helped a lot of young prospects into the NHL, and I can't blame him for the absolute black hole that was the goalie situation last year.
B) Treliving is an idiot and the Flames just made the biggest mistake letting Hartley go. They deserve to lose. Fire a Jack Adams winner for a guy who got fired after 2 seasons. We just got the next Dallas Eakins. I can't believe some of you are defending this move. You guys are idiots for not seeing it and are just agreeing with everything the org says rather than really seeing what is happening.
Guess which option gets me a reaction, and probably just a warning from the mods for the idiot comment (I think..)? Only a super-patient poster would take the time to respond maturely in a discussion with post B. Post B is totally designed to incite a reaction, so when it happens, please just own it. Don't turn around and play the victim card.
(For the record, I do not agree with post B anyways - though I think it was a mistake letting Hartley go, I am open-minded and understand why it happened, and I am eager to see what the changes are in terms of how the Flames play as the season wears on.).
