Sympathy for what's coming to some kids after they tried to kill someone? Nope, sorry.

Should they be criminally responsible at such a young age? I don't think so. They sure knew what they were doing, but I doubt that they fully understood the consequences of their actions. That doesn't excuse what they did, but I don't think they should be held accountable in the same way that a young offender would.

I do think that it makes sense for Child Services (or whatever it's called) to deal with the parents and make sure everything is OK, and check up on the kids over the next few years, but I think that the parents are probably in the best situation to deal with something like this. We can't slap a criminal label on them at 8 years old - I think it could be potentially more harmful in the long run.
