I actually thinking this is a good move on Mclellan's part. As a coach, despite getting the Ws, he probably wasn't all that happy with his team's game in the first 2 games.
I also think he's probably sighing a bit of relief that they got beat ugly right after, as it's likely harder to make a message as a coach if the team keeps winning with poor habits. He could immediately get the whips out, lash a player (non-core player of course

) and set the tone early in the season.
