And where were we in last year's standings? 26th. Those teams are looking to beat us just as badly as we're looking to beat them.

And no, the Canucks don't have one of the best top lines in the NHL. In 2011 they did. Not now. Not even with Eriksson serving as a definite improvement over last year.

You're being a homer. The Sedins have more points per game the last two seasons (0.829) than Gaudreau and Monahan do (0.823)
while having a way better cycle game and defensive game
and playing with less offensive defensemen. Adding Eriksson certainly does give them one of the best top lines in the league.
That top line also happened to be team Sweden's top line in a best-on-best. They are still three of the best Swedish forwards in the NHL. Them being old does not stop them from being effective, and they absolutely dominated our top pair and joke of a top line last night. That's not on Gulutzan. That's on the players who got dominated.

Likewise, the Oilers don't have one of the more potent forward groups in the NHL. Edmonton has consistently had an offence that is in the bottom sixth of the league. And that was before they traded their leading scorer.

Please. Take off the homer goggles for once. The Oilers' offense was poor because their defense did not contribute very well. With Russell, Klefbom and Larsson their defense is very average. Their forwards were higher scoring than ours despite less offense from their backend. Their leading scorer was replaced by a 60pt UFA signing, too, while we replaced our third leading scorer(s) with a 40 pt UFA signing.

Or did you think parroting what the eastern media tells you about these teams was going to be remotely convincing?

I don't give a damn about eastern media. I just don't have Flames homer goggles.
