The Chiefs entire offensive scheme in the Vermeil/Saunders era traced back to their offensive line which used to be solid at all 5 spots. Welbourne, Tait, Weigman, Shields, and Roaf than last year when they had Waters in place of Tait were really solid units when at full health. As a result they could run the ball on anyone, and that set up their passing game. Also by having such a great group of 5 they could split Gonzalez out and use him as a receiver more often and move him around to create mismatches. But I do agree that Tony Richardson's absence is pretty significant. Consider that the Chiefs lost Welbourne, Richardson, Roaf, and Saunders I think they'd be having a tough time offensively even if Green was healthy.

This year the Chiefs have a different co-ordinator in Paul Hacket who is very predictable, and don't have the same tackles they used to have. I think the ability of the offensive line and an offensive scheme that took advantage of where the talented players was helped disguise the Chiefs weakness at WR. Now that the talent on the line isn't what it was, and the scheme is pretty predictable, it looks like a bit more talent would help at the WR position. The last couple drafts the Chiefs looked to defence with their top picks. Maybe they can look at the offensive side of the ball now as they need to get younger on that side of the game.
The offensive co-ordinator for the Chiefs is Mike Solari. Who was the long time offensive line coach. Which also may be a factor in the running game this season. Hackett was the co-ordinator back in the mid 90's when Marty was the coach. Brain Waters was in the O-line as a guard when Tait was here and Tait was replaced by Welbourne. Tait was the 5th player on that line anyway, behind Roaf, Shields Wegman and Waters.

Morton was ok in 2003 I think he had around 50 catches for 600 some yards and 3 or 4 TD's. But he was also with the team when they went 7-9 the following year. Your right it woudn't hurt to get better recievers. Samie Parker will drop 3 balls before he makes a decent catch. Kennison has allways been reliable yet he is not pro bowl material. Hall looks like he is the number 2 guy, he's fast, but can he leap up and get those high passes like TG? But through the Vermeil era when the Chiefs were churing out top scoring and top rated offenses, opponents allways said that none of the Chiefs receivers scared them. Yet Trent Green allways put up 4000 yard seasons.
