The NBA is like this and I found it hilarious how it caught Calgary hockey fans off guard at the Raptors pre-season game at the Dome.
Tip off was 7pm (I believe) and at 7pm the players were at centre court and the ref tossed the ball up with people still wandering the concourse probably going "what the hell's going on down there? Some sort of ceremonial tip off?".
