I'm certainly not suggesting Versteeg is a true top 6 winger, he sort of was, but isn't now. However he is a top nine, and he's got that cup pedigree, and he's a better fill in up the roster with his history and snarl than some of the options that are winning by default on the current roster.
If he goes to the Monahan line you have the Flames four young forwards riding shot gun beside Versteeg and Brouwer which is a very smart way to roll things out this year.
If he doesn't go up that high perhaps he could play the off wing with Backlund and Frolik but someone I doubt that's the plan.

So much this. Add in Frolik on the third line and our RW has basically become the veteran leadership of winners. Sure Versteeg might not put up the numbers, but there are three guys all from the Blackhawks when they were developing into their current form. Guys who have won cups, seen multiple teams and coaches and know what it takes to win. This is exactly what you want with your young group of talent. I love where BT is taking this team.
