If true, this is a pretty antiquated method of dealing with a team's financial structure. There's not a lot to dislike with this deal as the AAV is terrific, however, moving forward what is the method to the madness going to be? Is the team now going to adhere to a self imposed Guadreau cap even if the salary cap rises another 15 million dollars?
At some point talent is not going to stick around under an organizational philosophy like this and I'm not sure we see Guardreau in a Flames jersey much more than 5-6 seasons unless the team changes its stance. We as fans, could have been guaranteed another 2 years of his services with a little more flexibility.
