I'm surprised because the rest of the hockey world seems to think this is a great move. McDavid has been under a microscope since he was 14 years old. He has proven that he thrives under expectations. He isn't being rushed in any way, shape, or form. It's obvious he is the future of the team. Give him the ball and let him run with it. Your final sentence is why this is so ridiculous. It's not a criticism of McDavid, but of the Oilers, and the fact that 11 years into this rebuild, they are so utterly lacking in leadership that they named a bare teenager their captain. McDavid becoming the youngest captain in NHL history is not an achievement. It is an indictment against the Oilers incompetence.
