I'm definitely no fan of Gudas, but that outcome isn't all on him. Could he have let up? It's likely, but a split second decision isn't always easy to make. Could Vesey have chosen to not turn into the boards like that? Absolutely. Protect yourself first, make the play second. I really don't think Gudas was being malicious. He simply finished what should have been a solid hit, but the recipient got cute and put himself in danger.
