And no, questioning Francis is not the same as those examples you gave. Questioning Francis and his sources is more akin to questioning Eklund and his sources or believing the stuff in the National Enquirer is fabricated. The reason why it is different than your examples is because a reporter can hide behind the veil of protecting a source or claiming it is an anonymous source while they pass on information.

When someone is as out to lunch as Francis usually is, either he doesn't verify information properly, doesn't have good sources or *gasp* makes things up. He wouldn't be the first nor last in his field to do that.

Regardless it is simply my opinion, you don't have to share my opinion and I won't try and convince you either.
It's more than an opinion though. One could argue it is defamation and you are hiding behind the anonymity of a forum to make statements about a guy.
