You also can't be Muslim. Or Mexican. Or a whole host of other things.
It's also relevant because it provided the perfect illustration of not just who he is but how he handles these things (poorly). He can't resist taking the bait and saying something stupid, offensive or both.

He's proven again and again that he sees women merely as objects. If women aren't young, fit, and beautiful, they aren't worth his time. It isn't a low blow when half of the people he's campaigning to "represent" are women, for whom he clearly has no respect.
Is he really going to worry about women's issues? Equal pay, maternity leave, access to health care, etc., given that he sees women as objects, treats maternity leave as a nuisance, and just assumed it was his wives' job to take care of their children.
Women are eye candy or an irritant to him, he doesn't treat any of them with respect, and that's a huge issue in this election.

Think of the political capital that Clinton could get from vowing to refuse SuperPACs in 2020.
Back on this topic, the GOP debases the conversation by arguing "shame on you on behalf of the Benghazi victims" and the Democrats follow them into the mud with their own, more moderate, smear from a fallen soldiers family.
It's an election about trustworthiness; arguing "we're better than them, at least" is such weak tea.

But this wasn't just any fallen soldier's family. This is a Muslim family, a family who if Trump had his way, would never have made it into the US at all, let alone would their son have ever had the opportunity to fight and die for this country.
There aren't any policy stances to attack when it comes to Trump, because he can't stick to one plan for more than maybe a few hours or days at a time. So the only way to prove he's ill-qualified is to point to his own words and actions.
